Lead acetate from a previous experiment was added to enough distilled water to dissolve all the crystals. To this was added a concentrated solution of iron (III) chloride. A precipitate of lead chloride forms.
Purification involves decanting, or filtering the iron (III) acetate from the lead chloride. The lead chloride is then washed with cold distilled water until no more iron (III) acetate remains. The lead chloride can then be recrystallized in boiling hot distilled water. Place in freezer to freeze precipitate.
